When Nike introduced the Nike Shox technology, the firm described it as the company's biggest advance since Nike Air, claiming the shoes would help athletes jump higher and run farther. If Shox did one-tenth of what it was touted to do, it would be a major innovation.

The idea was to continue the brand's history of innovation, backing it up with marketing. The final result is a suspension system in the heel that makes shoes spring back. The technology recently won recognition at Popular Science's 2000 Best of What's New Awards."Nike Shox delivers on what people expect from us," Moran added.
