Counterfeit Nikes once sold in Gaston to help poor children

Counterfeit Nikes once sold at the 321 Flea Market will soon go on the feet of poor children in other countries across the world, according to state officials.

About $850,000 in counterfeit footwear in north Carolina secretary's office, north Carolina alcohol and other institutions in charlotte and surrounding areas, trapped in last week, will give the poor countries around the world.

With permission from Nike and Timberland, the 8,000 pairs of shoes and 500 boots are being donated to World Vision, a Christian relief agency that provides disaster assistance.

At least some of those shoes come from the counterfeit bust at the 321 Flea Market in December, said Ernie Seneca, a spokesman for North Carolina Crime Control.

In that case, a Charlotte man was allegedly selling more than $10,000 worth of counterfeit items, including Nike shoes.

"We saw this as a great opportunity to help those less fortunate," said John Ledford, director of ALE. "Confiscated goods are usually destroyed after their evidentiary value ends."

Seizures and arrest of national plan involves law enforcement officers and agents from local and state of north Carolina secretary of the office against counterfeit products.

"These fake brand name goods steal sales from the legitimate companies that make the real products and they steal business from the local merchants who play by the rules and carry the genuine products," North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall said in a release.

State officials also praised Nike and Timberland for agreeing to allow the seized shoes to go to people who are in need around the world.

Last October, Charlotte ALE agents starting working counterfeit merchandise cases and assisting in enforcing trademark laws.

More than 200 million dollars of goods has caught so far, about 40 people have been arrested. People were detained in Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, anson, rowan, stanly, trade unions, the county.
